Matrica Project Presentation at Congress Day “mcT”

At the Conference "mcT Petrochemical, ATEX, Safety, Anti-Fire, Cyber Security", In the Industry Age 4.0 The new horizons of innovation and digitalization, PSC Srl Engineering & Contracting with its Special Process Packages division Bine Process, presented the biomonomer and bio-esters production plant built for Matrica in Porto Torres. Our presentation was shown on 29/11/2018 at Hotel Crowne Plaza in Milan and divided into three sections:

Process section indicating: the main sections of process, production capacity, feeding material, industrial use of the industrial products obtained. The plant treats sunflower plant oil, that is oxidized and hydrolysed in various steps to obtain azelaic acid, glycerine, perlargonic acid and other fatty acids. The plant is divided into the following areas:​

• Production section monomers intended for biopolymer production
• Esterification section of pelargonic acid to obtain biolubricants
• Production of Utilities (compressed air, demi water, diathermic oil, steam and electricity)
• North and South storages

This plant is unique in its kind and there are no others similar at worldwide, occupying an area of 55000 m2designed on the green chemistry processes (the chemistry of the new frontier)

Instrumental section and electrical part: N ° 600 electric power users, 10 MW of installed power, N ° 3 electric cabins, 600 km of electric cables more than N ° 4107 instruments installed with traditional HART Smart communication protocol

Control and automation section part: management of huge quantity of I / O signals N ° 1300 from process units, from packages, from instruments and from motors. The control system is configured as follows:

• HMI con N° 10 WorK Stations, N° 2 Server, N° 2 Engineering Stations
• DCS with 12 redundant CPU
• ​N° 20 Ethernet switch

The system was designed to be easily expandable, easily adaptable to the evolution of the system and to minimize the use of electrical control cables, through:

• Local remote units of RIO data transmission (electronic Marshalling) with redundant fiber optic cables
• Intelligent MCC drawers with redundant Profibus connection to the DCS

PSC Srl Engineering & Contractingwas involved in the basic and detailed design for the construction of the entire plant (part process, mechanical, electro-instrumental, electrical, automation, civil works), also as consulting support to customer to proceed with the procurement of materials selected.Other services included in the complete engineering package were:

• Programming software
• FAT of automation system
• Other various tests
• On-site technical assistance for implementation, improvements, upgrades only software and instrumental, automation involvement
• Other engineering activities subsequent revisions to the existing system from the Milan office
